We had a great start to our quilting season.
Our first Zoom meeting was successful, with 57 members in attendance.
Our guest speaker, Celeste Compion of Meerkat Shweshwe provided a wonderful presentation, telling us the history of Shweshwe cotton fabric, from the history to the current business in South Africa. They still use the style of looms developed during the industrial revolution, and complete all the steps, from weaving the fabric, to completing the final products.
She also shared some of her quilts, made from Shweshwe cotton.
The deadline for placemats has been extended until the end of October, so there is still time to make some for the Meals on Wheels program.
There is still a need for lap size and wheelchair quilts.
Lap quilt sizes are 40-50 in wide x 54-64 in long.
Wheelchair size is 35-38 in wide x 35-38 in long, with diagonal corners on the bottom, so there is clearance for the wheels!
Travel and Retreats
The fall retreat still has room for more!
A trip is being planned to Quilt Canada in 2021!
Watch for news of our next meeting!
